Relief printing
I've mentioned relief printing multiple times on my website and some of you might be wondering what relief printing is. Relief printing goes by multiple names because it can be done in a few different ways. Relief printing also known as block printing, linoleum or Lino-cut printing and woodcut, is a method in which an artist will carve into a block of material and then using ink, the artist will print what hasn’t been carved away on to paper or textile fabrics. I use the method of carving into linoleum to make my prints which I’ve found works well when printing on fabric. If you are interested in making your own relief prints it is quite easy to do, below I’ve listed the minimal materials necessary. Although making relief prints can be rather fun and satisfying it is a project that can also be very time consuming, but I still recommend trying it out if you’re interested in the art form.
These are the materials that I started with you can of course always buy more, but this is the minimalist list of what’s needed to start.
